Kinihira Rassagala: Unraveling the Mysteries of King Ravana's Iron Factor

ðŸ”´ "Kinihira" Rassagala, famous as King Ravana's iron factory ✒️

There are hardly any mountains in Sri Lanka that do not have stories related to King Ravana. According to some sources, this Kinihira Kanda is the iron workshop of King Ravana. Due to a fire in the past, this workshop caught fire and the molten iron that was there then has turned into stone in the same way.

The village where the ash was swept down is still called Alugolla. The best time to climb this is after January. The stone steps leading to this rock point tell the signs of the history of King Ravana. The way the stones are located in Kinihira mountain is also amazing. So are their colors.

Rassagala archaeologists say that the name of Rassagala may have been applied to this mountain because Raksha tribes who worshiped demons lived in this area. Rassagala Kadumuduna is located in Balangoda area. Many information about ancient hunters have been discovered during the archeological excavations. In some places, Rajagala is also known as Rassagala. However, these areas are the places where the history of King Ravana is revealed.

Rakshagala Kinihiragala Pattini Amma Kanda, the second highest mountain in Dolosba, is also known as Wangedi Molgus Gala. One belief is that it is the iron factory/workplace of King Ravana and the monster faces were formed by a sudden fire, and there is Rassi's mortar and mill, and another belief is that it is a place where medicine was given for an illness of Goddess Sita, and the medicinal mortar and mill are in this place.

18km from Gampolin Dolosbage Road

14km on Nawalapitiya Dolosbage road

If you are coming by bus, you should take a bus from Gampola Dolosba, get off at Raksha area and come through the tea factory. A ticket should be obtained near this factory if coming by vehicle.

After a slightly dilapidated road, you should stop the vehicle at the end of a line and walk the rest of the way. A very beautiful and refreshing way. There are many trees on the road with Kirala One vines pointing down. Beautiful as well as very easy to travel. You can camp in the section near the monster face, as there is no water nearby, so you have to take it from below. A stream is encountered in the middle of the road.

Our previous destination Kabaragala, the highest mountain in the Dolosba area, can be reached through this, but there is no definite route.
